I read with great amusement the recent article in the Wall Street
Journal about the mayoral candidates' thoughts on metropolitan
transportation -- particularly the idea that the city should take over
the MTA. My thought is that all of the candidates should read Robert
Caro's classic work "The Power Broker", which goes into the intricate
structure of transportation in the New York area and the great
importance of bonds and NY-state-control in doing this.
